This is a hand repaint I did of a vintage'90s Barbie, using Derwent watercolour pencils. She represents a fashionable Norse noblewoman-- perhaps an Earl's wife or a princess-- of the late Viking Age, 10th-11th century AD. Her hair is rerooted to resemble bleached flaxen hair and she sports the little braids popular at the time, also the heavy black eyeliner. Her entire outfit is handmade according to reproduction patterns, including the authentic leather turnshoes and nålbind socks. I have used real wool, linen, etc where possible but otherwise substituted with muslin or similar.
She wears a linen shift and grey striped kirtle. Her red satin coat is trimmed in gold embroidery. The blue wool mantle is edged in fur and clasped by a gold chain across the shoulders. I strive for as much realism as possible when painting the faces. I use almost exclusively repurposed materials so these are eco friendly too: It brought me great pleasure crafting this artist/fashion doll and I hope you will enjoy her for years to come! Please do not get her wet or attempt to restyle her hair with heat etc. Keep her out of reach of kids and pets and handle with care; she is NOT a toy!!
